JACARTA, TIMOR NOW HATENE - The Indonesian government continues to discuss the issue of land borders with Timor Leste. Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security Wiranto said he would meet with Timor Leste's Minister of Planning and Investment Xanana Gusmao to resolve the issue.
"There has been very good progress in our discussion. We will end the progress of all the discussions later on Xanana Gusmao's visit on Monday on the 22nd (July,)" Wiranto said at his office, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Thursday ( 7/18/2019).
According to Wiranto, Xanana will meet with him and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mrs. Retno Marsudi. The meeting will discuss resolving land border issues between Indonesia and Timor Leste.
"In the meeting, we will ensure two border points between Indonesia and Timor Leste. This is what we have to solve together. Because by completing these two land points, we will clearly position the ocean boundaries," he said.
Wiranto said there was good understanding and progress between the two countries. He hopes that the meeting on Monday (7/22) will be the end point of the discussion on the issue.
"But wait for the 22nd (July). At present, I have not dared to say that because I had to meet Xanana Gusmao first," he said.
Previously, Foreign Minister, Mrs. Retno Marsudi had met with Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law and Security, Wiranto. The second meeting discussed the border between Indonesia and Timor Leste, before meeting with minister Xanana Gusmão on July 22, 2019.
